Top Ten Unusual Locations #5

Why would you move it to the balcony and not directly to the garbage?
I have a theory that people just don't think it is that easy to throw a couch out with the regular garbage, a bit like buying a TV with the groceries (what we just did at Costco!)

these two photos were taken on August 4, 2010 and were right beside each other

Top Ten Unusual Locations #8

I don't expect you to recognize the couch, but it is one of two days ago moved further into the back yard- my first picture of it was on May 13 and the last August 16. This series will appear when I update my top tens for the photos taken in 2012.
Imagine my surprise when the one below appeared on October 29th and is still there today

Top Ten Unusual Locations #9

My Instagram photo from April 3, 2013.
It was also behind a fence, in what was a strange yard beside the old Fraser Hickson Library

Top Ten Unusual Locations #10

Starting a new series - unusual locations that I have found these couches - I find it funny that they are often banished to the outdoors but behind fences, where they stay for days, weeks or even months just out of the reach of the garbagemen

Top Ten Locations - #1

Coolbrook from Isabella to Dupuis
Where it all started and I will always prefer photos taken at residential locations than apartment buildings. I will be doing a post with maps of where all the couches are from later this year or early next.

Top Ten Locations - #2

Cochrane and Decarie
Definitely the location that combines quantity and quality the best. What is the weirdest thing about this location is that it is against the wall of a duplex. I am not exactly sure where they all come from!

Top Ten Locations - #3

Coronation and Fielding
I go past this location every day and it often results in a couch. This is the number 1 location in terms of volume, and I get my fair share of good photos here.

Top Ten Locations - #4

Cote St Luc and Randall
I am constantly tweaking my route to enable me to photograph the most thrown out couches. This was not on my route for the most of the five years, but I now pass it most days and have been very happy with my results.

Top Ten Locations - #5

Mayfair and Fielding
definitely a janitor who takes great pride on how he gives his tenants' couches their send-off

Top Ten Locations - #6

Decarie  (block between Snowdon and Cote-St Luc)
tried to have only one of the buildings- each one has just as many

Top Ten Locations - #7

Fielding and Randall
These tableaus are not made of all the couches found at the location, but only a selection - this is where I recently posted a top ten couch with trucks

Top Ten Locations - #8

Walkley and Fielding
more of a location of quantity rather than quality, but often the fence can add a lot to the picture

Top Ten Locations - #9

Snowdon and Decarie
a prime location for about a year in 2011 - has made me have a number of theories about buildings and their tenants and their janitors. Have not seen a couch here in more than a year

Top Ten Locations - #10

starting a new series ( as I once again approach the end of my bicycling year and I contemplate abandoning the project) and I have selected my favorite or best hunting locations over the years. I have been playing with tableaus in my regular artwork and thought this is a good top ten to utilize this system.
this location is Coffee and Elmhurst and as such is not really on my bike route- I call it my "shooting fish in a barrel" location as I find one almost every time I go by it.

Top ten couches with trucks #1

from April 3, 2009
from a more innocent time- believe it or not this was when I learned that they actually put sofas directly into garbage trucks.

Top ten couches with trucks #2

from December 11, 2012
I thought I was giving up this addiction at the end of 2012 and thought this would be my last photo. I always love graffiti and the picture is captured at the right moment.

this time the guy said to his co-worker "it's OK he's just a photographer"

Top ten couches with trucks #4 (my favourite story from my couch photos)

from September 30, 2013
I waited for these guys to come and started up a conversation with the younger one, who switched to perfect English after hearing my French. He asked what I was doing and I told him I have a blog and post daily photos of thrown out couches on Instagram. I then told him I had been doing it for about four years and have about 2,000 different couches and he just answered "That's all?"

Top ten couches with trucks #5

a sequence from July 25, 2013- I was taking a few photos of these three couches at one location when the garbage truck came - I asked if I could photograph the sequence and they obliged.

Top ten couches with trucks #6

the first of the garbage trucks - I always wonder what percentage of the thrown out couches of my route that I actually see. Here are three examples that I would have missed had I been one minute later

Top ten couches with trucks #8

from October 25, 2011 and from January 18, 2012
this couch stayed in the truck in front of the house for more than 6 months!

I am quite sure that they are unwanted by their original owners

Top Ten Couches with Fences #1

from June 8, 2009
again an oldie (seem to be my sentimental favorites) - Taken on my drive to camera club - I actually got out of the car to photograph - It was a big decision if it had the right to be in my "Unwanted Couches" blurb book of the couches I photographed to and from work and on my lunch time walks- I liked it, so since I made the rules, I said going to camera club was also legitimate for a camera project.

Top Ten Couches with Fences #2

from August 27, 2013
too late for my top ten couches on end, but it is my best example of a Frost fence that I have

Top Ten Couches with Fences #3

a photo taken just after our last provincial election, on the top ten just after the end of our municipal elections

a metal fence which may be more of the composition than the couches themselves- they both had the sharp angles
